About the PPSC Learn-to-Swim Program

The PPSC Learn-to-Swim program is designed to instruct and guide swimmers aged 5 and older with different swimming abilities into “team ready” swimmers. (Note: although it is not a requirement that swimmers join the swim team upon completion of our Learn to Swim program, parents should understand that preparing children to join the team is the focus of our lessons.) All instructors are CPR and first aid certified and have coach’s safety training certification, in addition to being a coaching member of USA Swimming.

Skills taught: comfort in the water, basic water safety, breath control, beginning stroke technique, freestyle and backstroke basics, endurance.

Once swimmers complete the Learn-to-Swim program, they will be evaluated to determine their readiness to join our swim team.  Swimmers who are not ready may continue with additional 8-week sessions of Learn to Swim as needed.

Registration: Registration must be done in person. There is no online registration available for Learn to Swim. Please contact president@ppscswim.com to register.

Where Do I Go? Enter Portage High School at door “O” (on the football field side of the building). The pool is to the right.

What Do I Bring? Payment in full is due at the time of registration. (Cash, check, or credit card.) Parents must bring a copy of the swimmer’s birth certificate to registration. No registrations are accepted, or spots saved, without a copy of the birth certificate. Please print out the registration form below and bring it to the pool with your payment.

What Does My Swimmer Need? Swimmers should wear a comfortable suit. They also need goggles. Goggles and caps are available for purchase at the pool desk. They will need a towel to dry off with, and a change of clothes for when they are done. Locker rooms are available for changing, but parents are not allowed on the pool deck or in the locker rooms. If children need assistance changing, parents may take them to one of the restrooms located in the pool lobby, to the left of door "O."
